There is a lot of excitement and talk in the industry about the opening of Australia’s first and only fully integrated super yacht marina/shipyard destination, the $150 million Rivergate project in Brisbane.
Rivergate is busily preparing to launch its first marina facilities this January.
The completion of the hardstand and refit complex soon after will then see Rivergate fully open for business.
Kirsten Mackenzie, Director of Marketing for Rivergate said that people everywhere were becoming enthusiastic about Rivergate because they knew it was further proof of Australia’s rise as a major player in the super yacht arena. She said that there was no doubt that the industry internationally that “down under” was on the brink of something big.
“Already our refit and repair providers in Australia are fast gaining a reputation for quality work and cost effectiveness.
“But it is not only the refit work vessels come to enjoy.
“Australia and the neighbouring areas of the South Pacific offer some of the most spectacular cruising grounds in the world and everyone knows this.
“Brisbane - the capital city of Queensland - is certainly set to become the “gateway” to the glorious cruising and fishing pleasures off the eastern coast of northern Australia.
“Owners can fly into Brisbane’s award-winning international airport having already installed their yacht at Rivergate via Dockwise Yacht Transport.
“Or they can “go this distance” across the Pacific, with its warm temperatures, breathtaking beaches and relaxed island lifestyle. It really is a traveller's paradise.
“The Pacific Ocean region has many small islands with their own distinct culture – 20,000 of them!
“They include Easter Island, the Galapagos Islands, Mariana Islands, Marquesas Islands, Rarotonga, Society Island, St John, Tahiti, Truk Island, Tuamoto Island, Tubuai Island and Western Samoa.
“The trip “down under” could also include New Zealand, the Cook Islands, Fiji, or even to the Solomon Islands,” she said.
Ms Mackenzie said that which ever way people arrived in Brisbane, they’d be in for a real treat from there.
“They can cruise on up to Fraser Island, the world’s largest sand island with world heritage protected rainforests, streams and beaches.
“Heading further north, they’ll take in a little whale-watching off Hervey Bay before making for the stunning Whitsunday Passage to enjoy the world-famous hospitality at any one the great island resorts there.
“The Great Barrier Reef will then be at their fingertips as they steam (or sail) all the way to top end to sample the internationally sought-after fishing grounds off Cairns,” she said.
Ms Mackenzie said that enquiries to Dockwise from international owners and operators had steadily increased and “rumours were rife” about a dramatic increase in visits.
“Rivergate is located only a few nautical miles down the river from where Dockwise will unload the boats onto Moreton Bay.
“Rivergate will be able to cater for larger vessels, especially those over 24 metres. So owners can feel confident that the specialised facilities and services that they require will be provided for them there.
“Whether they travel here on their own or with a transporter, Rivergate will be the obvious first port of call,” she said.
Rivergate is set to become Australia’s leading world-class marina and shipyard facility, providing all yachts from anywhere in the world with the ultimate one-stop-shop and will ultimately comprise:
- deep water marina berths for 12 metre yachts through to 60 metre international super yachts;
- hardstand and strata-titled refit complex;
- service berths for yachts up to 70 metres;
- high speed refuelling and pump out facilities;
- Queensland’s largest dry boat storage;
- “dry” marina berth for larger boats;
- yacht sales showrooms and repairers and much more.
Rivergate is located adjacent to the Gateway Bridge at the Rivergate Marine and Industry Park, 15 minutes from the CBD, 10 minutes from Brisbane Airport and six nautical miles from Moreton Bay.
