Did you know Rivergate Marina and Shipyard is a certifiedClean Marina? It is something the Rivergate Team takes very seriously! Here are some handy tips to keep your vessel and the environment beautiful.
Cleaning and Detailing Water and vinegar is one of the most efficient cleaning products available. It leaves no residue and can be used on varnish, clears, stainless steel and fibeglass. Simply combine one part vinegar to 10 parts water in a spray bottle and use with a soft cloth.
A number of manufacturers produce cleaning products which are biodegradable yet still great at cleaning boats. At Rivergate, Stella Systems sells the TRAC cleaning products* which are 100% biodegradable; see the range at Shed 4, 17 Rivergate Place, Murarrie QLD 4172 or http://www.stellamarine.com.au/Page/stella-systems-equipment-sales-installation-and-maintenance
Bilge Cleaning Regular maintenance and checks by either yourself, your mechanic or Rivergate staff will ensure the cleanest possible bilge. If you do need to clean out your bilge, there are a number of methods and products to stop waste entering the waterways.
- Use absorbent Bilge Socks; they absorb all the waste water, oil and other contaminants before being easily disposed.
- Does the bilge need a really good clean? Rivergate staff have a list of specialised bilge and tank cleaners to return your vessel to new. See Andrew Cannon or call 0410 114 799 or ac@rivergate.com.au.
Antifoul products There are a few antifoul products on the market which are considered to be more environmentally friendly than others. The best solution is to use your vessel as much as possible to prevent growth on the hull. Listed below is a known environmentally fiendly antifoul product and its website.
- Copper Coat* (http://coppercoat.com/) - this product is the combination of solvent-free epoxy resin and copper powder.
Water Management Water is the life blood of the marine industry and Rivergate. Each berth is serviced by fresh water and we ask you use it wisely. Have trigger nozzles on the end of your hoses. Try using buckets and rags to wash down the boat.
The hardstand and shipyard is serviced by a water recycling and harvesting system, ClearMake, which provides three months of self-sustaining water supply.
Rubbish Rivergate provides its clients with a number of rubbish options. On the marina there is
- General Waste; and
- Glass and plastic recycling.
The hardstand has
- General Waste;
- Glass and plastic recycling;
- Cardboard recycling; and
- Separate waste oil, thinners, coolants and batteries areas.
If you have any concerns about where to place rubbish, contact the officeon Ph: 3907 1600 or info@rivergate.com.au.
Rivergate has also constructed another work boat which can collect rubbish and debris from the Brisbane River. Not only will it make the area cleaner but prevent damage from large pieces of floating debris.
Rivergate Marina and Shipyard does not guarantee the effectiveness of these products
Remember, no waste can go into the Brisbane River!
